Nina Johnson is a Type 1 Diabetic, who has changed her life with Banting.
Nina Johnson thought that a low GI lifestyle was the healthiest option to manage her diabetes, that was until she realised just how much Banting could do for her! Banting has helped Nina lose 6kgs, and to reduce her short act insulin by two-thirds. Banting has also helped Nina’s husband improve his health – his cholesterol is better than it has been in over 15 years!
Because Banting has had such an impact on Nina’s life – she felt inspired and compelled to share her success. She became a Certified Banting Coach (CBC) to empower her Real Group members to regain their health with Banting.
These Real Groups are Banting support groups, offered either online or face-to-face, that provide members with coaching and support from both fellow Banters and CBCs like Nina.
Nina offers up the following “banter” on her personal journey:
“Real Story:”
“I have type 1 diabetes, and I was on a low fat/low GI diet for more than 25 years. I was taught that with having diabetes I should not eat fats and that I should rather eat low GI carbs, to keep my blood sugar stable. I then decided to do extensive research on the LCHF lifestyle. This lifestyle seemed perfect for me, and I was hooked! Since I began Banting, I have lost 6kgs, and I have reduced my short act insulin by two-thirds!
A particular concern of mine when introducing Banting into my home was my husband’s cholesterol. I once again did a lot of research, this time on cholesterol. I was also in contact with Real Meal Revolution’s Jonno Proudfoot to gain further insights. We visited Dr. Gail Ashford, who put my concerns at ease even more. Her words to my husband were, “Say thank you to your wife for getting you to start Banting. Your cholesterol values are better now than they have been in the last 15 years!”
“Real Influence:”
“The emphasis to my group members will not only be on weight loss but also on becoming healthy. I will also offer support to people living with diabetes, type 1 and 2, and with other ailments such as IBS, arthritis, etc.
I aim to give regular talks and meetings packed with discussions around LCHF. As part of the meetings, I will encourage people to share their good and bad days. I would also like to offer one-on-one support, as some people prefer not to share openly.
I am a highly motivated, passionate person, and I walk the talk! Having done extensive research, I am totally committed to the Banting lifestyle.”
