Danielle Hackett is an absolute LEGEND!!! She joined and then got the rest of her family to join. Between her and her family they have lost over a 100kg together. This is her story…
Before RMR my approach to health was completely wrong. I went from one low fat diet to another. Hoping for a quick fix. I also tried to outrun a number of bad diets.
I have always been sporty and active but have struggled with my weight my entire life. I knew that I was on a downward (or rather upward) spiral but just did not know what to do about it as every diet I tried in the past, I failed at.
How I saw food, food was my pleasure and my pain. Any celebratory event would be celebrated with food, any commiseration would also revolve around food. I used food to numb out emotions and feelings.
My bad health made me feel like a failure, I believed that I was the problem and that I just had no will power.
My Asthma was completely out of control, I have Keratosis Pilaris – a skin condition which became very noticeable and inflamed. I would fall asleep in front of TV, my concentration level was not great. I would rely on my alarm to wake me up – otherwise I would sleep in late.I had very little energy. At my heaviest I was 101kgs.
I felt self conscious about my weight. I would avoid certain activities like going to the beach with friends etc.
Diabetes and Cancer run in my family. Genetics loads the gun and lifestyle pulls the trigger. I knew that I needed to make a change because I was on a fast track to becoming diabetic.
I was very fortunate to be exposed to RMR and the banting scene in 2013. My eldest sister, Jacqui invited me to a talk at UCT as one of her past lecturers, Prof Tim Noakes was the key speaker. I must be honest, I was very reluctant to attend. Thinking that whatever he had to say, it was just going to be another fad diet. How wrong I was!
Prof Noakes’ lecture fascinated me, it just made so much sense. Jonno’s first RMR recipe book was launched that evening. I purchased a copy of the book and started my keto journey the very next day.
I loved the tasty food that I was now allowed to eat, I lost 18kgs on my own and managed to keep most of the weight off for the next few years following that. In 2019, my old habits started to return and the weight started to creep back on. After the hard lock down in 2020 I decided that I needed to take drastic action. I went back to the basics, started reading all my keto books, I cut out all sugar, starchy veg, fruit etc. After about a month following keto on my own again an advert popped up on Facebook with a link to the RMR Online Course. I love learning and thought that it sounded like a great way to do keto and possibly meet some like minded people in the process.
I was expecting a great program, I follow Jonno’s podcasts and have a copy of every one of his books. I was very excited to sign up. I initially thought that the RMR Online Course would be focused solely on what to eat and what not to eat.
The program exceeded my expectations, it is life changing! It has helped me repair my relationship with food.
It is such a supportive community. I was lucky enough to be a part of the Pilot Hero Group Support Program, which was a game changer. It helped me set achievable weight loss goals and I had the accountability and support of being in a group with like minded individuals and fantastic coaches.
I have more confidence. I feel comfortable in my skin. I no longer use food to numb feelings or emotions.
The support is incredible. The Future Friday workshops are so valuable I have learnt so much about mindset, diet and psychology of eating. It is not a diet, it is a lifestyle.
May last year, I weighed 89kgs, wearing a size 14/16. I now weigh 77kgs (12kgs down) and I am wearing a size 12. I am in a much better frame of mind, I don’t have any brain fog, my energy levels have improved and I sleep better. My Asthma is under control, my GP has since lowered my dosage. My skin condition is barely noticeable.
If you’re the kind of person that wants to lose weight by eating delicious food and without hunger then RMR is for you. If you’re the kind of person where failed diets have left you feeling despondent and hopeless then RMR is for you. If you’re the kind of person that needs help setting SMART goals and group or individual support and accountability then RMR is for you.
I have a lot more confidence and I am feeling happy in my skin.
RMR has improved every aspect of my life.
I am so grateful to the RMR team. I have learnt so much about myself. I have learnt how to be kind to myself. I have learnt how to set achievable goals. I have learnt how to set myself up to win on a daily basis and that progress is perfection.
